A series of sculptures made for an environmental arts festival 'Return to Nature' in 2019. They are inspired by the incredible skill, diversity and
wonder of the insect world. As insect and pollinator populations are rapidly declining across the planet, the importance of these incredible creatures has never been more important to highlight.
The forms focus on adopting techniques used by UK native insects during egg laying and the construction of nests and cocoons; Caddis fly larvae, Wood ants, and Lace wings. Each material has been chosen to reflect those used by the insect, and is either a reclaimed a repurposed waste material, such as oyster shells, or has been found and collected, such as reeds and sheep wool.
